Rodrigo Figueiredo, Microsoft's Visio Solution Specialist in Chicago, organized an enormously successful Visio Day on October 26, 2011. More than 90 people listened to seven speakers and saw demonstrations of Visio 2010 and multiple Visio add-ins.
A key focus for the day, which was cosponsored by the Chicagoland chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis, was the business process capabilities in Visio Premium 2010. Those capabilities include diagram validation rules and the template for Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), both of which were demonstrated during the day.
In addition, Harvard Computing Group demonstrated TaskMap Professional, which provides significant process mapping, analysis and improvement capabilities without requiring the Premium edition of Visio. OpenText demonstrated analystView, which adds full-scale process simulation to Visio BPMN models.
Visio MVP and consultant Al Edlund demonstrated work-in-progress software to generate network and rack diagrams from a Configuration Management Database. Al's Visio diagrams even include Bing maps that display device location!
Finally, consultant Howard Edidin described work he has done using BPMN to design, model and document Biztalk solutions.
